First, negative ones: a considerable amount of financial investments are extracted from public domain, which might be used for social problems solution, help to the third world etc. Also the major amount of highly professional engineers and scientists are extracted their activity from the solution of important industrial tasks, such as alternative fuel and power supply sources development etc.
Second, positive ones: Earth is a cradle of mankind, but it can not remain all the time in the cradle, it has to expand beyond if it wants to survive (K. Tsiolkovsky). Also the high concentration of funds on one problem allowed to reach quickly enough the technological results which otherwise could be obtained in a considerably longer period. The best examples here are microelectronics, new metallic and non- metallic alloys, semi-conductors and super-conductors.
And last but not least, new important knowledge is obtained about our home – Earth, as well as about biological objects, microgravity influence on them and on technological processe, to name a few."
