Space activities promote the development of astronomy, geosciences, life science, information science, energy science and material science. For example, satellite meteorology now expands the research scope to the whole world atmosphere.
Space activities speed up the change in traditional technology fields. Satellite changes the technology in the field of communication, television transmission, data collection, weather forecasting, resource exploration, navigation and environmental monitoring.
Space activities improve the life style of mankind. For example, e-education, e-business, e-commerce, long distance electronic postal service and medical treatment make our life becomes much more convenient.
Space activities promote our ability of understanding and changing the nature. Far away from our planet, we have different perspectives to study the Earth. For example, we understand the origin and evolution of the Earth more comprehensive since much information has been available in space activities.
Space activities open a new field for the sustainable development, and will be used to protect the mankind and the Earth. Remote sensing gives us economical and effective ways for resource census. Satellite-based navigation system provides precise position information for the transportation.
As a developing country, China recently keeps active in space activities. In the reformation of traditional agriculture, China emphasizes on the combination of remote sensing, GIS, GNSS and expertise knowledge and puts forth the way of “precision farming”, which has brought about much more benefit to the farmers. In the western China, spatial information has been used in monitoring of environment and resources, planning and developing of small towns. Communication and broadcast technology has been used to conduct distance education in those areas. Now there are more than 2,000,000 students studying in the distance schools through broadcast and television each year.
China encounters very serious natural disasters every year and spatial information technology has been used in warning, monitoring and evaluating of flood, drought, forestry disaster, sand and dust storm, etc. As a result, the damage from the natural disasters decreases several billions every year in China.
In brief, spatial activities contribute much to the repaid development of modern China’s economy.
